Research Guide for Science and Technology

This guide lists selected print and electronic resources available to LCU learners.  

Find Books for in-depth or historical information. Books are shelved by call number:  Q=sciences, R=medicine, S=agriculture, T=technology subjects

Search the library catalog by:

  • keyword or phrase
  • author
  • title
  • subject
  • periodical title 

Search example: Gene splicing is keyword. Genetic engineering is subject.
     Subject headings listed on the detailed record define/broaden/narrow terms.

Find background information in Reference (same call #s): Van Nostrand's Scientific Encyclopedia, Encyclopedia of Ecology, Encyclopedia of Soil Science

Find Articles using Databases for current information
Journals shelved by title in current, fiche, film or back issues – see catalog for holdings.
Click here for a list of current Agriculture, Biology, Mathematics and Chemistry subscriptions.
Many journals not located at LCU may be in a full text database or at a local library or may be requested from another library loan (1-2 weeks delivery – see ILL Info Guide)

Key databases:
* Science Select: over 300 full-text journals from Applied Science & Technology index, Biological & Agricultural index and General Science index  (

* Science & Technology: articles from 800+ full text physical science & technology journals  
Green File: indexes human impact on environment

ANY topic: Academic Search  [select peer-reviewed]

Other databases may be useful depending on topic.
Few databases have all articles with text.
Database content may change due to contracts between publisher & vendor.
