Research Guide for Communication

This guide lists selected print and electronic resources available to LCU learners. 

Find Books for in-depth or historical information.  Books are shelved in P-PN (communication & journalism), HD-HF (business communication), BF (nonverbal).

Search the library catalog by: 

  • keyword or phrase
  • author
  • title
  • subject
  • periodical title 

Search examples: mass communication is keyword; mass media is subject.
     Subject headings listed on the detailed record define/broaden/narrow terms. 

Find background information in Reference books, such as: 
Oxford Encyclopedia of Theatre & Performance, Columbia Encyclopedia of Modern Drama

Find Articles using Databases for current information. 
Journals shelved by title in current, fiche, film or back issues - see catalog for holdings.
Click here for list of current Communication subscriptions.
Many journals not located at LCU may be available in a full text database or at a local library or may be requested from another library (1-2 weeks delivery - see ILL Info Guide) 

Key Databases 
*Communication & Mass Media: over 400 full text journals
Business Source: business news and journals (many full text)
InfoTrac Newspapers: US papers; NY Times and Times (some full text)
Newspaper Source: U.S. and international newspapers (some full text)

ANY topic: Academic Search  [limit to peer-reviewed]

Other databases may be useful depending on topic.
Few databases have all articles with text.
Database content may change due to contracts between publisher & vendor.

Internet: validate for authority, currency & source (edu, gov, org are best)
Accuracy in Media for fairness, balance & accuracy in news reporting
